Error Message: "Missing Color Profile"
If you import images without embedded color profile information, SmartAlbums will display a "Missing Color Profile" error message.
What is a color profile? A color profile is data embedded in an image that tells software and printers how to display colors accurately. Without this information, your printed album colors may look different from what you see on your screen.
Error message you'll see:
Solution 1: Assume sRGB, ignore warning
When to use this:
- Your images are likely already in sRGB but missing the embedded tag
- Most digital cameras and editing software use sRGB by default
- You want to continue working quickly without additional steps
What this does: SmartAlbums will treat your images as if they're in sRGB color space when you export your album.
Steps:
- Ignore the warning - click Continue or OK when you see the missing color profile warning
- Build your album as usual
- When exporting, SmartAlbums will automatically assume sRGB for images without profiles
Optional: Set your export color profile
You can choose the color profile for your exported album:
- Go to the Inspector tab
- Select Album Preferences
- Find the Color Profile or Export Color Profile setting
- Choose your desired profile (typically sRGB or Adobe RGB)
Note: If your images don't match the export profile, SmartAlbums will convert them automatically.

Solution 2: Assign Color Profile in Editing Software
When to use this:
- Your lab requires a specific color profile
- You know your images are in a different profile than sRGB
- Colors appear incorrect in SmartAlbums
- You want the most accurate color management
What you'll need:
- Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, or similar photo editing software
- Knowledge of your images' actual color profile (or willingness to convert to a standard profile)
In Photoshop, follow these steps:
- Open the images that do not contain color profile information.
- Go to Edit > Assign Profile.... and assign the proper color profile. If you are unsure which color profile the image is in, you can instead go to Edit > Convert to Profile... and convert to the desired profile.
In Lightroom, follow these steps:
- Import the images that do not contain color profile information.
- Export from Lightroom, selecting the proper profile in the Color Space dropdown of the Export window.
